Trip To the Penang Hill

I was having a conversation with my India counterparts and got to know that he and his wife came to Penang a couple of years ago for 'HONEYMOON'. I imagine that Penang is like a 'Hawaii' or a "Mauritius" for them. I am surprised and glad to hear that and asked him what are the places he visited. He told me one of the place that he and his wife hired a taxi to is the 'Penang Hill'.

I then realised that sometimes (well maybe a lot of time, *sheepish*), we took things for granted. My in-law's house is located at the foot of the Penang Hill and it's 10 mins away from the cable car station ! And determine to change the taking for granted attitude, we went up the hill last weekend.
Penang Board Of Tourism and the Penang State Government should really focus more on renovating the place and fixing the cable car. We were disappointed that we can only ride the cable car up to the 'middle station'. When check with the station director, they are expecting another 3 months of work before the cable cars can reached the upper station. Well, then again, there's the hiking trail that one can take to reach the top :)

Nonetheless, the trip was fun for Cassie. It took about 1 hr for a round trip and RM2.00 per adult. She pointed out the tracks immediately and ask me where's the train. Then follow with a lot of questions, what's this/that, look mom, what's the sound, what happend to the door, who's moving the train (haha).

It's definitely worth it to visit again, but wait till Feb 09 :)

Some markers and papers

Cassie makes wonder with her new markers. She requested to be on the floor when she draw (perhaps cooler), and has different 'pose'.

Sharing dinner

I cooked up some japanese-style curry thinking that i can hv a quiet solo dinner. I made sure Cassie had her dinner first and then i took out my dinner. Came along Cassie and she insisted to share my dinner. She just dip the curry like nobody business and eat away.

Child's play

What it feels like to be near the ocean ?!

All islanders out there, you know what i mean here, don't cha ?! When you're near the beach or ocean, you tend to let loose and just want your hair to fly with the ocean's breeze. Forget the tingling sensation the sand makes your feet feel, the glueyness on your skin from the air and the piercing ray from the hot sun to your eyes. Forget those, they doesn't matter. Instead you just want to hear the sounds of the waves, smell the scent of the ocean and feel the heat of the sun on your face. I love the beach, i think it's in my dna :)

A visit to the buttefly farm

Cassie enjoyed the place so much that she walked around the pond, taking her time to look at the fountain, the koi, the mini waterfall, the flowers, insects and of-course the butterflies.
And of-course, G had a blast of time taking loads of photos :0.
It was a wonderful day-trip.

Happy Birthday !!

The month of Sept is full of birthday for us. My dad's, my brother and mine b'day all falls in Sept. Most of the time, we just have 1 big celebration. This year we actually wanna plan for some sun and sand in the Rasa Sayang. Unfortunately the weather was pretty bad for the last few weeks. We actually drove 1/2 way to Batu-Feringghi only to find out there's a 'landslide' near that area. So, we took the u-turn and jump into the E&O instead. (See Cassie dancing to the beat in this video)

Because of all the delay, we quickly ran down the car into the restaurant and totally forgot about my camera ! When thd jazz band came along, only then i remembered i left the camera in the car *darn*

It was a fun evening after all. Dad had fun singing with the band, cassie had fun dancing to the beat. Even with the pouring rain outside, the whole place is full of warmth and excitement :) We'll definitely do it again. Happy birthday Grandpa !

Cassie's funny moments

Moment # 1
It was rainy most of the evening last week and Cassie snuggle happily in her favorite blanket.

I teased Cassie and said : "Cass, borrow your blanket to daddy ok ?"
Of couse she came back with the answer "No, this is my blanket"
I tried again and said : "You have a nice blanket here but daddy don't have blanket .. borrow ok ?"
Here's Cassie replied : "Mom, you have blanket rite ?! "

*hmpt*

Moment # 2
It was school holiday yesterday and cassie was pretty relax when she knew she doesn't have to go to school. Later in the afternoon, she picked up her bag-pack and her water bottle just like how she does every morning ready for school.

I asked Cassie : "Cassie, what r u doing ? r u going to school ?"
Cassie replied said : "Yes, good morning teacher ! "

*kekeke, she misses her school after all ...

Peek-A-Boo

Cheeky chic.

Spending afternoon with dad

I went out for a 2 hr facial treatment and here's Cassie and G when i got home, both having an afternoon reading. how nice :)

Reading fun

Cassie loves to read and she is now insisting on reading some of her books on her own. Her favourite last month was the 'billy goat gruff' and this month she's moving on the 'the gingerbread man'. The pre-school's books has a lot of repetition and i think that's good for her because she is able to pick up the phases very well.

// "Stop, little gingerbread man" said the old women " i want to eat you for my tea" //

When i read for her, i usually add in some expression and sound effects :) that's why you see her emphasize the word 'STOP' in the video :)

Playhouse Disney

We walked pass the disney store and Cassie request me to take photo with ALL her playhouse Disney 'friends'.
I asked her to stand closer to 'mickey mouse' and she gladly did, by standing in-front of the poster. she looked so funny with the mickey ears :)

Yummy Curry

Cassie has been a curious little chick and wanted to participate in whatever we're doing rite now. That including eating the roti-canai with curry dips. I was getting ready her tumbler when she insist to try the curry, i've told her numerous times about the spicy food but she just want to have her own way.

OK, i decide to let her try. i thought to myself, she's gonna get it this time. She's gonna complaint the curry is hot and will not want to touch the curry next time.

Well, Cassie being Cassie, she never failed to amaze me ! Here she goes, taking pieces and pieces of roti-canai with those curry with it. She even licked her fingers and told me that they are very good.
Blimey, life is like a box of chocolate after all, and that's always true when it comes to Cassie.

Singing while you work

I was preparing Cassie for bath and waiting for the water to fill the tub. While waiting, i then prepared the mob to clean the floor. Cassie saw what i was planning to do and insist that she wanted to clean the floor. That's why you see her in her 'untidy' attire in the video :)

While Cassie participating in the house chores, she didn't forget to entertain herself while she's doing the work :) turn up your volume to hear her sing :)

It's a great reminder : work hard, play hard. most importantly have fun and enjoy :)

Beijing Olympic (II) - My little gymnast

It was a bright sunday morning and we were browsing through the 11 Olympic channels and stopped at the Rhythmic Gymnastics event. Just 2 minutes into the event, Cassie has a request.

舒蔚 : "我要大家拍手, 我要美丽跳舞衣!"
Cassie : "I want everyone to clap and i want the beautiful dancing dress ! ".

Yes dear, it's every girl's dream to wear beautiful dress and have the crowd admiration ! I can understand what you want and why you want it ;)

And off she goes, doing her dancing and gymnastics routine :) She followed all the moves that she saw from the TV, including the way they walked to the floor and their facial expression when they sat down waiting for their score after the routine.

Aside from being the gymnast, she has the swimmer event last week. I do not know how good a athletic she is, but what i know for sure dear, you are always the winner to me and here's a gold medal for being the best in the "daughter sports" event :)

It's school holiday again !

It's school holiday again and our neighbour friends came to play. Since she started school, Cass is now more capable to share her toys and interactive play with the other kids.
Here she's actually throwing the ball up high, trying to slam-dunk. She did try like 100 times (for about an hr) and finally managed to get ONE basket. Ar, the smile on her face is priceless :)

Beijing Olympic : My little swimmer

Cassie is very particular when it comes to washing her hair. She doesn't like to wash her hair everyday and will scream when the water splashed her eyes.

We were watching the Olympic 2008 events and we managed to catch 'Michael Phelps' broke the record. I then took the oppurtunity to try 'brain wash' her by saying that the swimmer was so brave and he doesn't scream when the water splashed his face.

Cassie watched very carefully and very quickly, she pointed out the 'flaw' in my logic. "他有眼镜, 水没有进去眼睛. 我没有眼镜哦 !"
"He has goggles and water cannot splashed into his eyes. I don't have goggles ..."

Grandma Visit

All kids love visitors i guess, Cass is extremely 'hyper' when grandparents visit :)
It's actually very difficult to take photos for grandparents and children, i think Somehow both the grandma and grandchild seems to want to move in different direction and the photo usually came out 'not rite' :)
Luckily this time around, i managed to get 1 good photo :)

Flying pony tails

It was Friday and Cassie feeling restless at home. We met up with the neighbours gals and went for a fun at the playground. All gals have their pony tails flying high that afternoon :)

After school routine.

This is the newly introduced routine after Cassie starts school. Usually Cassie will complete all her work in school, but she missed 2 days of school last week and thus yesterday she came back with 'homework'. I checked her pervious work and found that she was able to follow through. Aside from the writing practice, she has the math and science session too, where they learn addition, comparison and nature. I guess that's a good sign.
You can see she's pretty serious when it comes to completing her work. She's a bit perfectionist like me, and sometimes i have to assure her that it's OK if her writing get out of the line a bit. It's like re-assure me that it's OK if things went off track a little bit :)

1st month @ school

It has been 1 month since Cass started school. If you think you can sense how hungry Cass is in the photo, then you're absolutely right ! School overall, is a different routine for her. A lot of physical and mental effort required.

Just last week, she came back with her neatly tied pony tails flying all round her head, her shoes all dusty and she was all sweaty. I was surprised to even see her so 'untidy', and i asked her what happen. (My thoughts was that she must have caught in some kind of sandstorm)

She was in high spirit when she told me that they had a game of 'ball', she kick the ball, run and throw and etc with teachers and friends.

That's when i snapped this photo. Yes, she came back tired, hungry and dusty. But, nothing to compare her high spirit, rosy cheeks and excitement that she had experienced :)

Go Cassie Go !

We can never have enough shoes !

yes dear, we can never have enough shoes.

Cass loved the red color ones because she thinks it's the cinderella slipper. I told her the slippers are too big for her and she was actually quite disappointed. However, she did get those shoes for me and asked me to try them on. Right after i tried it on, she will tell me the shoes are too big for me too :) OK Cass, we'll hunt for one that both of us can wear, deal ? :)

Cassie loves Sushi

While we were at the sushi restaurant, the TV display on our table was actually turned off. Cass looked around and see that everyone else has the TV on, and she told me that '我没有TV, wor" (she don't have TV). kekeke
She just loves the sushi rolls. She can finish the whole plate by herself, 1/2 of the ramen, and end it with the mandarin orange Jelly. Sometimes, she even point out the customer on the next table and say she wanted to try the food they are having. :)

Mischievous Cassie

Cute picture of well-behaved Cass yeah ? well, it's actually difficult to have Cass sit down still like this, most of the time, Cass is actually very mischievous...

Monkey business one.
I left Cass her breakfast in the morning and walked downstairs to do the laundry. Before I walked downstairs, I told her to finish up her breakfast.
When I was doing the laundry, I heard the toilet flushed a couple of times. I went upstairs and saw Cass throw her chewed breakfast into the toilet. She even flushed the toilet to make sure there's no 'evidence' ! I caught her red-handed and she gave me her 'nothing happen' smile.

Monkey business two.
Before we brought her to her usual bike ride yesterday evening, I told her to finish up her mineral water before we go outside. She said ‘OK’ and start drinking from the cup.

G and I sat in front of the TV waiting for her to finish her drink. A couple of minutes later, when she thought we were not looking, she took another cup from the kitchen and pour ½ of her drink into the new cup. Then she walked over and showed me her half empty glass. *Gosh* !!

Needless to say, she got some serious lecture hours from me that day. Can't help but wondering where she got all these ideas. I guess kids will always be kids anyhow.

Peach-er

This is Cass's 2nd week in school. Overall i think she's doing quite well, she has some friends in her own class and also some friend whom are 5 & 6 yrs old. They will shout her name and tell her to the door when we were there to pick her up after school.

There's a slight change to her schedule and she sleep a little bit late now. Other than that, she seems to grow a little bit more. Just the other day, she was doing some drawing and then she saw my walked by. She stopped me and said, 'mommy, let me show you, let me show you'. Then she start drawing away with mumbling description. I think she's imitating her teacher. Oh, speaking of teacher, she can't seems to pronounce the 'T' and thus she refer her as 'Peach-er' :)

Cass's First Science Project

Yesterday when i went to pick up Cass, she gingerly walked out toward me and stop to pick up something. To my surprise, she hold up her own 'science project' a green plant in a white disposable cup with her name on it. It was from the seed she planted last week. The teacher let the seed grew during the weekend and the kids can bring it home the next week.
I smile at her and she eagerly told me that she wants to put water into the plant.
On the way home, she saw our neighbour's flower pot and told me that she wants to grow the plant first by putting more water, later there will be flower, it will grow and she can then transfer it into a bigger flower pot.

As soon as we arrived at home, she immediately asked me for water and she want to water the plant herself. Later in the evening, we took her to ride her bike and she again pour more water into the cup. That's when she asked me "mommy, no flower ?"

Everything needs love, attention and patience to grow, that's life dear.

Cass at 32 months

looking forward for a bright future ? you betcha ! :)

Mastering Scissor

Out of the blue, Cass picked up her scissor again this morning and starts cutting away. She was able to snipe away the corners about 2 weeks ago and this morning, she managed to cut out shapes ! :)

After that, she will then glue those shapes that she cut out and paste them on the paper one by one. Check out her final 'masterpiece' :) she cut and glue those piece on her own.
Feeling happy about herself, she requested me to take her photo with her craft.
I asked her what are those, she told me they are shapes and colors and then she gave me a look as if like 'what ?! don't you know ?!' hehehe

After school activities

Since Cass started school, i've been bz in the kitchen. Mainly to prepare her lunch and also snacks for her to bring to school.

Because of that Cass wanted to participate in the kitchen as well. (btw, she's only allowed in the dry kitchen area, away from the stove and all) She will bring her chair and stood up near the counter area that i usually be while i bake, she will wait there, and says "shu-weih wants to cook' :) Remember she complaint about the chocolate cookie ?

See how serious she is ?! to set her up, i gave her some sprinkles, some flour, some cocoa powder, a couple of spoons, plastic bowls n some tart tins, she will then 'cook' away. Her cooking involve stir up the flours together, add it into the tins, pour it out again and then repeat.

She will be so occupied (see her sweat in the photo) and when she's done, she will told me to put her 'product' into the oven :)

First day at school - update

I asked the teacher how's cassandra and she said Cass didn't even shed a tear and she's a very independant girl. Good job Cass.

She came back and immediately asked for milk and told me she wanted to sleep. :) i insist she take her bath first and she finished up her lunch in double portion !! *must be really hungry ...

Here's what Cass has to say about her day at school :
[about reading] "yes, 有 reading, shu-weih 不会,有学"
[about singing] "有, dancing 一起"
[about eating] "吃 cookies, chocolate 的不好吃, 要 cooking different one, shu-weih 要 cook strawberry 的, 等一下."
[about friend] "没有, 舒蔚"
[about her uniform] "要买new one, 明天穿"
[about going to toilet] "有wee-wee, 要开门"

So i guess she did some reading but there are a lot that she didn't know, then there are dancing session that she joined in without failed, the cookie that i gave her is not good, she's asking me to make her strawberry one for tomorrow, no new friend yet, understand that she will still have to wear the same uniform tomorrow and if she needs to go toilet, someone (teacher perhaps) need to open the door for her :)

i checked her bag and found her exercise book. She proudly showed me she wrote her name (ar .. i bet the teacher hold her hand one) and keep flipping the pages as if she anticipates the learning and can't wait to have more !

First Day At School

Cass officially starts school today (July 1 2008). Cass has been very excited and keep asking for 'school pleeeease' since last week when we started preparing her for school. This morning, i told her that we're going to school later and she was so excited and finished up her breakfast without much hustle.

When we arrived at her kindy, she got quite nervous at first. Cass got her own set of process when she's at a new place. Usually she will wanted to walk around first (it's like she wanted to make sure it's safe), then she will say hello and shake hands with the ppl there, and after that she will warm up. We got her settled down and asked her to shake hands with her fellow 'school-mates', she turned and saw a little gal next to her and just shoke her hand.

very soon, they walked into the classroom i hope she's OK .... i wanted to join in the class and see how she is, but i know i should not, so i waved good bye.

ar ... It sure feels lonely and quiet around here when Cass is at school. ....

Handmade Crochet Dress

Cass picked up this dress from her closet last weekend when we were preparing to visit the grandparents. She insisted on this dress and keep saying she wanted the 'red color' dancing dress. (红红的跳舞衣).
And she meant the handmade crochet dress pass down from my cousin. My cousin is very good at crafts and she can make wonders with her fancy fingers. She's very good at sewing, knitting and even flower arrangement. She gave us 2 crochet dresses, a pink one and the red one here.

This dress has been hanging in the closet for at least a year now because i can't find a occasion for her to put on and she wasn't the right age yet. As Cass has requested for it, i decided to let her try on.

Immediately after she put on the dress, she told me : "Shu-Weih pretty little girl !!" and then she started her dance routine by swirling, dancing and stretching all the way happily.

Well, you are right Cass, we don't need any occasion or excuses to feel pretty or happy ! thank you for the reminder :)

Princess and her Tiara

I'm not sure if it's all little girls' dream to be a princess, but it sure is Cass's dream rite now. She has been singing the princesses songs, act out the whole singing act with props (from books used by Belle, sharing magic carpet with Jasmin and sword fight with Mulan).

You can see from this photo that she wears her self-made 'tiara' in all her activities. When she's in the princess 'mood', see how she showed a slightly different face. hehe

Hands on the computer.

Cass has been watching us using the computer and she has been sitting on our laps when we browse the net with her. She finally got the chance to use the computer totally on her own today. I was downstairs cooking dinner when i saw G walked down alone and told me that Cass is using the computer on her own, playing the toddler's computer game.

I walked up to check on her and found that she's happily reading, doing the counting, playing the music ! you can see from her face that it's very intense. i can't help but to take her photo because she just looked too cute for a photograph.

Craft re-visit

It was a rainy Sunday and a perfect day for craft :) Comparing to her crafts back in January, she can handle the glue and the shapes with ease now (even arranging the size from small to big) and can complete the craft with minumum help.

Actually, to think about it now, i just need to be there to show support and she completed the craft. Well, she still 'yulp' when the glues are on her hand ... hehe

Last nite while playing with Cass, G throw Cass her toy bunny softly.
Cass : "why you throw ?"
G : "opps, sorry"
Cass : "cannot throw one, put down slowly"
G : "ok, ok "
Cass : "remember ok ?"

I found her keep doing this lately, she's like a parrot immitate all our speeches and like a programmed robot that repeats after us :)

Breakfast

Part of her growing up insist : using her own utensils, especially the knife and fork during breakfast time.

New Bike

We decided that Cass need a little more exercise (as if she's not active enough hehe), and we got her a new bike !! (check out her first bike here) She was so excited about it and wanted to take the bike wherever she goes.

She usually bike for about 10-15 mins at a time only and she will be quite exhausted. ar ... then the good part for me, she will nap for 3 hrs in the afternoon :)

My place, my igloo

G got an igloo for Cass and it fit nicely near the window in the living room :)

New easel

Here's a new thing we got back from KL to occupy her mind. :) This is where she will do her drawing, some painting and some writing.

Besides all the above, i caught her imagine the easel as her mirror this morning and comb her hair with it :)

Cass the dancing queen

Partly imagination, partly expressiveness, partly too much TV and partly pretend play :)

Cass break into dance quite frequently. Here while waiting for dinner and she was doing her 'dinner' dance :)

Aquaria KLCC vs Paragon Bangkok

This is the 2nd trip to the aquarium for Cass. She has been to the Paragon's Siam Ocean World in yr 2006 and the KLCC Aquaria is her 2nd underwater encountered.

Overall i think the Aquaria is too small and not a lot of display. The main attraction in June is the 'piranha'. hmpt.

Comparing to the Paragon' siam ocean world, where besides the tunnel, they have the 'artic' encountered, a lot of different deep ocean creatures like the neon lights jelly fishes. In addition, the paragon's ocean center has a few aquarium tank that are 2 storeys high, well kept surroundings and good ambiance.

With 30,000+ marine animals (Seals, Blue Ringed Octopus, Ragged-tooth sharks, Stingrays, Leafly Sea Dragons, Giant Spider Crabs, and Sharks of various types including Ragged-tooth, Black tipped, and Leopard). No wonder it is the largest aquarium in Southeast Asia.

But then again, with 1/3 the price we paid for Siam Paragon, it's fair we expect 1/3 of the experience in Aquaria KLCC. fair ? This is free market at work here.

Pretend Play : Cassandra MD

Check out how Cass is pretending to rescue her stuff toy :)

Cass's Yoda-like speech

Cass is progressing to form longer sentences now, instead of the baby-words (like milk2, bear2, mum-mum and other words in double) she is learning more new words and making sentences.

I found that the new sentences that she's making nowadays are star-wars 'YODA-like' :)
with the action words in front of the sentences. example :

"啊嘛 回家, 没有"
"Grandma goes home, no"

"Dr. 喝完. 说"
"Dr. finished the drink, he says"

"Captain hook 有crocodile, 咬屁股"
"Captain hook has crocodile, bite back-side"

When listen to Cass, one will try to wait till she finished the whole sentence because the punch-line is at the end :)

This is grandpa

Cass was watching cartoon yesterday evening and she noticed a character in the cartoon with beard. Quickly she ran over to the kitchen and told me to watch 'grandpa'. I was so puzzle and followed her anyway.

She pointed to the cartoon character and said :
"这个老老了, 是公公来的. 有胡子的."
"this is old already, he is grandpa (kong kong) because he got long beard".

Bath time fun.

Cass loved to bath and now she insists on bathing on her own including washing her hair.
